With Valentines Day right around the corner it makes me think of a sign I made for my husband (that ironically, I don't have a picture of.) It was one of those "I belong with you..." signs.  Nevertheless, it has turned my attention from furniture for the moment, to my other passion, making signs.  I love the whole "farmhouse", "Joanna Gaines" look and what better way to achieve that look then through "Farmhouse" signs.  They are a great addition to any house no matter what your style is.  They add such personality to a space.

 I don't remember the first sign I made.  It was a long time ago.  My sign making just kinda happened. I am thrifty, and if I think I can make something instead of buying it  - I will.  So I began making signs for myself.  Then I gave a few as gifts over the years which were a hit and subsequently people kept on requesting more and more.  So last year I opened my Etsy shop. It's been slow going on Etsy.  I haven't really put much effort into promoting it till recently and now I want to share with all of you.

Handsome Waterfall Dresser

Ok folks, I am obviously new to blogging as you can see from the lack of posts. It is partly due to the fact that I really don't enjoy typing and I find it rather hard to get what is in my head out on paper and furthermore I don't like to re-read what I wrote because I don't like how it sounds.  But when I do re-read I find many typos and grammatical errors. So long story short - I am working on it.

Now, lets get to the good stuff.

Furniture.

I love it.

Well this Art Deco Waterfall dresser needed some love.  It was nice and in ok-ish shape but it had sat in my friend's shop for a long time. The veneer in the front was loose in several places and completely missing in places on the top drawer. No problem - that's where paint comes in.  I know many people cringe at painting vintage pieces but to me - if it's just sitting there anyway and nobody wants it then what's the big deal?

Ok, so as you can see it needed love and patching the veneer.  Well let me clarify.  I did not put on new veneer.  I hear that is really difficult.  I just used wood filler and sanded it smooth.

These were taken in the middle of the process of filling where the peeling veneer was.

And here is the after:

I love the way it turned out.  I originally wanted more wood to show but because of the damaged veneer this was the result.  I used gel poly on the top and in between the drawers and grey chalk paint on the rest.  I finished it with a clear coat of wax then followed up with a dark wax all over to give it some dimension.  The pulls are original and were rusted so I gave them a light coat of gold spray paint and then gave them a weathered look with some black paint in the recesses.  I think it is such a handsome dresser. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Gorgeous Gold Dipped Navy Blue End Table

This is the little darling table I found that needed a little love.  It has wonderful detail that I thought would look great if it was highlighted. 

Below are the not so wonderful before pictures.  I took them for my own purposes not intending to show them to anyone so they are not very good quality and are difficult to view.  I think you'll get the point though.  It was an ugly brown from who knows what era but non the less still had potential. Please excuse the printer below and the lamp on the floor.  Ha ha.

Ok, this is where it got scary.  I got out my little jar of blue chalk paint and slapped it on.  Holy cow!  It was neon blue.  I stopped right there afraid of what my husband would say.  To my surprise he didn't really even notice so I decided to charge ahead and continue with the neon blue.  I figured it would be a first coat, a primer if you will.  I painted a second coat and it darkened slightly.  I then decided to use dark wax.  That is where is got pretty.  The wax totally changed the color from neon blue to this glorious midnight/navy blue.  I then used a little bit of rub and buff on the hardware and some of the raised areas. It was handsome!  I still felt it needed a little more love so that is where I took it outside (now that the snow was starting to melt and it was 58 degrees) and spray paint the legs to give it a gold dipped look.

I am just in love with the finished product.  It is so handsome. I will be sad to see this one go but I know that whoever gets it will give it a good home and cherish it as much as I.
